Peppermint has been used by the Egyptians, Romans, and down through the ages. It grows in Australia, Europe, and North America. It is widely used in foods, candies, gums, dental products, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. Because of this wide acceptance, and hence mass production, it is important to avoid Peppermint essential oils that may come from some of the high volume production processes that sacrifice quality and purity for inexpensive volume. Low cost usually is not high quality. This oil is commonly steam distilled from the flowering tops of the plant.
